VOLUNTEERING AT THE CORNERSTONE LEARNING CENTER

Thank you for your interest in our program.

Cornerstone serves economically and academically disadvantaged adolescents. Most of our students come from low income families and most are two to five years behind grade level in basic skills. Our primary goal is to help these young people improve their skills in reading, writing, and math, so that they have more choices for a fulfilling life. This is the job of the one-to-one tutor. Tutors receive group and individual training before starting, and can always get extra advice and assistance, with many kinds of materials available. Each volunteer is matched with one student for 90 minute sessions on Monday afternoons at the Lincoln Center campus of Fordham University.

This tutoring makes a difference in our students' lives, and in the tutor's life.
