Cornerstone Learning Center's services focus on helping youngsters succeed—in school and in life. We serve students on the upper West Side of Manhattan with school-year and summer programs open to students in grades 6, 7, and 8. Our Bridge program for high school students enrolls teens that started in Cornerstone during their middle school years. Each volunteer is matched with one student for 90 minute sessions once a week.

Cornerstone's mission is:
"to equip at-risk adolescents with the tools for academic and personal success,
with particular emphasis on literacy."

This is what our students say is important to them in coming to Cornerstone:

"I learned better comprehension and how to interpret the mood of passages." Richard, 8th

"I liked playing Scrabble and learning new words. I learned new words for later in life." Ingrid, 7th

"The subjects were accurately and professionally taught. My tutor elaborated on many topics that I did not fully understand. The session enriched my learning and served as a catalyst for success." Jiaan, 9th

"The things I like about my tutor is that she is nice and she explains things to me that I can understand. I learned my times table that I did not know. My tutor did not get mad when I asked a lot of questions." Diamond, 9th
